Who doesn't love tulips? It's one of my favourite flowers and I incorporate the tulip motif into many of my ceramic art tile designs. A 'tulip' thank-you came to Canada in 1946 from Queen Juliana of the Netherlands. This thank-you was in appreciation for Canada granting safe haven to the Dutch royal family during World War II. Since them, each fall, Canada is gifted 20,000 tulip bulbs from the Netherlands which are planted around the Parliament Buildings and parks of Ottawa, Canada's capital city. Each year in May, Ottawa becomes home to the largest tulip festival of the world. - Louise Tessier, artist
