Award for Excellence in Metal
15N20 and 80 CRUZ steel, Honduran rosewood, cast alloy of brass, nickel, copper; Forge welding, twisting the metal, hammering, grinding, sanding heat treating, wood working, glueing, tempering, hand-engraved maple leaf design
40 x 12 x 12 cm
This dagger was meticulously crafted from 28 alternating layers of 15N20 and 80 CRUZ steel. The process began by stacking and forge-welding the steel together, then twisting to create a unique pattern. The spacer and guard, I used the forged remnants from the same steel as the blade, allowing me to craft the ideal shape. The handle is sculpted from rich Honduran Rosewood. The pommel is a cast alloy of brass, nickel, and copper, with a hand-engraved maple leaf design. One of the key features of this dagger is its take-down design, it allows for easy maintenance and assembly. - Colton Yellowaga, artist
