PLUM
Canadian alpaca (Alpaca Naturally) naturally dyed with lac, cochineal, and log wood, and indied dyed alpaca (A to Z Alpacas); Handwoven on a multi-shaft floor loom in a modified lace weave structure
185 x 45 cm
Plum, is a handwoven shawl in shades of muted purples in which I feature the soft hand and luxurious drape of fine alpaca. The piece is an exploration of hue and texture and is woven in a modified lace structure. I created the rich color variations using natural dyes of logwood, lac, and cochineal on natural hued alpaca which was woven in combination with indie dyed alpaca yarn. The materials chosen in this piece reflect my aim of supporting local farmers and businesses and sustainable natural dye processing. Supported by a Creative Saskatchewan Craft and Visual Art Production Grant. - Vivian Wasiuta, artist
