Venus
Stoneware clay, glass beads, recycled plastic, LED light; Wheel-throwing, beading
35 x 21 x 21 cm
Clay is the primary medium I work with. To transform it into a ceramic object, I make use of water, air, and fire. This makes me become part of a larger process that outlives me. I like to juxtapose my pieces with recycled plastic materials. Compared to the slow transformation that clay requires, the shaping of plastic happens much quicker. Aesthetically I am drawn to introduce light and glass beads into my work. "Venus" represents a mutated creature evolving in earth’s water bodies. I imagine a scenario resulting from our overproduction of plastic waste that ends up in our ecosystems. - Ruth Langwieser, artist
