Preserved rhubarb leaves, thread; Preserving and stitching rhubarb leaves
22 x 46 x 1 cm
All of the rhubarb leaves in this series have been treated in glycerine. Some were processed in the last few years. Others are years old. All the leaves come from our farm, where rhubarb grows in abundance. After each leaf is processed, it feels like skin, or leather. My immediate association is to the touch of my grandmother’s skin as she aged. I have named each sewn leaf after my grandmother or one of her friends who came to our house to sew. I sew the leaves in their memory and honour. - Linda Duvall, artist
