Natural shed moos antler, deer hide, Czech glass beads, Melton wool, vintage Swarovski, vintage 24k seed beads; Beading
15 x 10 cm
This breastplate piece represents a modern interpretation of Métis florals, with a traditional flower, mouse tracks and rose hips. The moose antler was a found object in a local farmer's field during harvest. The antler was cleaned, sliced and sanded. The title, "Lii Fleur Sauvage" (Wildflowers), has several meanings: The wild nature of the flowers in the field along with the found natural shed antler, but also a term used by settlers for the local indigenous peoples. It is a bit of a contrast, given the piece, I feel, is elegant and upscale, despite the nature of the objects. - Brenda Dowedoff, artist
