Collection: Harm Maathuis

Harm Maathuis started doing pottery in the early 1980s, after having followed one class. Subsequently, he got himself a kick-wheel and kiln. Initially he used glaze recipes (mostly stoneware) from a friend of his Dutch family. It was by sheer luck that in the late 1980s he was introduced to the world of crystalline pottery by another Dutch potter. After a break since the mid 1990s, he started pottery again in 2018, focusing in particular on high-fired (cone 9-10) crystalline glazing. Given that crystalline pieces are not food safe, most of his pieces are of a decorative nature rather than functional.
