Paula Cooley & Paige Mortensen, Saskatoon
Solari is a collaborative project created by Paula Cooley and Paige Mortensen. Paula, a ceramic artist, and Paige, a watercolour batik artist, were intrigued by the intangible question: how to evoke the experience of a meditative walk in the forest within the confines of a gallery space? Combining our diverse craft knowledge and our respective materials of clay, oxides, paper, wax, watercolour, thread, and adding the element of light, we created Solari. This is a unique mixed media work that neither of us would have made on our own and speaks to the creative power and potential of collaboration. Solari is a contemplative piece, inviting you to look closely and enjoy the subtleties of colour, texture and light, reminiscent of a light dappled forest floor. Solari provides the opportunity to leave the busyness of everyday life, regroup and breathe, even for a minute or two.
