Lorraine Long, Regina
The solitude and reflection found in the diverse flora and fauna of wild and natural spaces connects my love of nature to my artistic endeavour. The medium and process of metal clay captures beautiful patterns, shapes and textures found in the microscopic world that is around us, be it the rough bark of a tree, the intriguing underside texture of a leaf or the delicate beauty of a dragonfly. The theme, “From Scratch,” is engaged within my pieces as: a beginning, a point of reflection, a vision, a path, an assemblage of individual ideas and parts that contribute to the whole. Nature’s intricate life force is layered within a connection of individual events and relationships that shapes the story that is told and retold only to transform its end of decay into a miracle of life that begins once again.
