From Garden to Table
Zach Hauser, Saskatoon
A decade ago I cut down an ash tree in my back yard and left it for the insects to gnaw on. They produced a beautiful pattern in the surface layer of wood as they consumed the bark. Now I have designed and made a table exclusively from this tree, preserving the scars that were inflicted by man and insect. I have made a table that echoes the shape of the base of the tree and highlights the insect and accidental damages that have occurred.
