The Boreal series came about organically, inspired by the views at the multitude of lakes in the boreal forest in northern Saskatchewan. This series of hand stitched landscapes were created with hand spun and hand dyed yarns using a combination of “real” and “made up” stitches to get the textures required to emulate the different elements of the landscape. Having lived in the boreal forest for 12 years, the views had been indelibly etched into my minds-eye. It wasn’t long after we left that area of the province that the sights began to pour out of my fingers, through the hand spun yarns, and onto the needlework cloth. Each piece is representative of a real place, capturing the calm and peaceful views that shaped those years.
Technique: Hand spun, hand dyed yarns, embroidered using different needle work techniques.
