And The Word Was Made Flesh - An Illuminated Page
Kristina Komendant, Blaine Lake
I have been pleasantly occupied with calligraphy and the hand lettering arts for over 30 years. I enjoy tremendously the broad-edged pen and how it, along with other squared-edged tools including brushes, can make the very unique and distinctive thick and thin strokes which express a calligrapher’s hand. Illumination art works on hand-processed deerskins, hand bookbinding, paper and fabric marbling, and paper casting are other areas of interest for me. My Artist’s books encompass many of these skill sets and I enjoy the challenge of bringing a verse or a story to life within the pages of a traditional codex-styled book or a more contemporary sculptural one. You can, at times, judge a book by its cover and once invited in, you will always discover or learn something new.
